SUMMARY:Ghost Train Trail Races
DESCRIPTION:Brookline\, New Hampshire – Welcome to New Hampshire’s original 30-Hour 100 Mile Race! Ghost Train started in 2009 and is going strong today as a fundraiser for the Brookline and Milford Conservation Commissions. ALL profits go directly back to the trails to preserve them and make them more accessible to the community. \n\n\n\nThe course follows the Granite Town Rail Trail\, a former railroad corridor carved through the woods in the late 1800s. In its working years\, this line carried massive granite blocks from Milford quarries and ice harvested from Lake Potanipo in Brookline\, bound for towns and cities throughout Massachusetts. Those rails were pulled up and sold for scrap during World War II\, but the trail never truly forgot them. Weathered railroad ties still surface from the soil like skeletal remains\, marking the path where trains once thundered through fog and frost. Some say the corridor still hums with the memory of steel wheels and steam\, especially after darkness descends. \n\n\n\nEach October\, as the Ghost Train leaves the station\, the forest is at its most alive\, and its most unsettling. Peak foliage cloaks the trail in fire and gold\, daylight fades quickly\, and long shadows stretch between the trees. Runners pass through history with every step\, moving along a route shaped by industry\, labor\, and time… and perhaps watched over by whatever still lingers in the woods. \n\n\n\nLearn more here.

SUMMARY:Dead Last Ultra
DESCRIPTION:Sutton\, Massachusetts – Dead Last Ultra is a backyard ultramarathon at historic Waters Farm in Sutton\, Massachusetts. The rules are simple. The race is not.Every runner has one hour to complete a 4.2 mile loop. Finish in time and you’re back on the line for the next one\, on the hour\, every hour. Fall short and you’re out. We run day into night into day until one runner is left standing\, the one who finishes dead last. That’s the win. Everyone else went home early. The course is half of what makes this race. Roughly half runs through wooded trail with stretches along Lake Manchaug. The other half opens into farm pasture\, past barns built at the same time this country was getting going. You’ll learn the loop in daylight and meet it again in the dark\, when it shows you something different. Cool late-October New England nights make for fast loops and a long\, honest fight.Waters Farm is a 1757 hilltop homestead\, farmed by six generations and preserved on the National Register of Historic Places. We’re proud to be the first to bring a backyard ultra to this ground. \n\n\n\nLearn more here.

SUMMARY:Fall Frolic: 8-Hour | 4-Miler
DESCRIPTION:Hingham\, MA – Four miles. Eight hours. Probably some mud. Definitely some questionable decisions. \n\n\n\nThe Fall Frolic is a laid-back trail running event with a few different ways to join. You can come run one loop\, spend the day seeing how many loops you can rack up\, or dip your toes into the wonderfully weird world of Backyard Ultras. \n\n\n\nThere are three ways to Frolic:4-Miler: “I’m Just Here for a Good Time”Run one 4-mile loop. That’s it. Four miles of trails\, fresh air\, fall foliage\, and whatever nonsense we have going on out there. Run it hard. Run it easy. Walk when you feel like it. Stop and admire a tree. We won’t judge. \n\n\n\n8-Hour: “How Many Can I Get?”You’ve got 8 hours to run as many 4 mile loops as you can. Run a loop. Take a break. Eat something. Run another. Hang out. Run another. Question your life choices. Run another. There’s no requirement to keep moving\, and you can call it a day whenever you’ve had enough. \n\n\n\nLast Human Standing… But Not QuiteEver wanted to try a Backyard Ultra but aren’t quite ready for the whole “miss the cutoff and you’re dead to us” thing? Well- this one’s for you! At the top of every hour\, you head out for another 4 mile loop. The idea is to get back before the next hour starts\, just like a traditional Last Human Standing/Backyard Ultra. But here’s the twist: If you don’t make it back in time\, YOU ARE NOT ELIMINATED. Take your time\, finish your loop\, and you’ll be pushed over to the 8 hour category for the remainder of the race so you can still get some more miles in. \n\n\n\nThis is your chance to practice the Backyard format – figuring out pacing\, fueling\, recovery\, and just how much time you actually want to leave yourself between loops without the pressure of getting sent home because you were 37 seconds late. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re chasing miles\, testing your legs\, practicing for a Backyard\, or just looking for a fun excuse to spend a November day on the trails… come join us! \n\n\n\nLEARN MORE HERE

SUMMARY:Mount Ascutney Vertical Backyard
DESCRIPTION:Brownsville\, Vermont – A “Last Person Standing” type of event. Each hour participants will ascend (and descend) 1209 vertical feet via one of two routes. The race ends when there is only one person left. \n\n\n\nCome out for a few hours or see just how much up and down your legs can handle before enjoying Thanksgiving dinner a few days later. ALL RUNNERS (and fast hikers too!) are welcome. This is a chance to challenge yourself\, and exceed your expectations. Can you make it 4 hours\, 8 hours\, 12 hours\, 24 hours? \n\n\n\nRunners have one hour to complete each lap (yard)\, and must be at the start line on the hour to continue racing. The laps are short\, 2.25 miles with 1\,209 feet of gain. Why 1209 feet per lap? If anyone can make it 24 hours\, they will have equaled the ascent from sea level to the top of Mt. Everest. Runners will have the ability to do three laps up the t-bar path (403 feet) or one lap up to a spot on the hiking trail much higher on the mountain (1209 feet) each hour. \n\n\n\nLearn more here.

SUMMARY:Eastern States 100
DESCRIPTION:Eastern States is a 103-mile single-loop trail race (98% single/double-track) in the Wilds region of the Allegheny Plateau in north-central Pennsylvania. The race circumnavigates a portion of the stunning Pine Creek watershed that includes some of our longest climbs and most technical and remote terrain. It visits storied trails like the Mid State Trail and the Black Forest Trail\, and accumulates over 20\,000 feet of climbing in the process — all in the glorious heat and humidity of August. This is graduate-level trail running that will both test and fulfill you in so many ways. Learn more here.
